The pursuit of happiness

Jefferson’s Ideal in the Modern Era
The pursuit of happiness, first immortalized by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, has always represented more than a personal dream. Indeed, from the very birth of the United States, this principle clearly signaled that the legitimacy of a free society rests on its ability to allow every individual to seek their own version of fulfillment. Moreover, as history has shown, the meaning of this promise expands with each generation, continually adapting to the realities of social progress. Today, that promise evolves again, as a result of diversity and inclusion, which together bring the American ideal into a new era of emancipation.
Freedom Renewed by Every Generation
Throughout history, each generation has renewed Jefferson’s vision. From the abolition of slavery, to the expansion of women’s rights, to the Civil Rights Movement and the recognition of LGBTQ+ people, the pursuit of happinesshas never stood still. In fact, an open society naturally generates new forms of freedom as it dissolves the rigid “normativity” of yesterday, transforming it into the richness of diversity. Consequently, what we see today in art, business, entertainment, and journalism is not a sinister plot—as the Christian nationalist movement insists—but rather the organic unfolding of the liberal democratic project.
Diversity as a Market-Driven Force
Moreover, the vibrant explosion of diversity in culture and commerce reflects the power of the market rather than any Marxist conspiracy. Indeed, people simply seek joy, authenticity, and recognition, and the free market naturally responds. As a result, if it were a conspiracy, it would be one worth celebrating, because it would mean an extraordinary collective effort toward liberty. In reality, however, the truth is far simpler and far more profound: freedom, when allowed to thrive, naturally produces multiplicity.
At the same time, our way of life under liberal democracy faces a grave threat. Indeed, those who defend mandatory normality—a small, fearful vision of society—are willing to destroy institutions, silence journalism, censor art, and intimidate businesses and universities, all in an effort to suppress the reality of multiple paths to happiness. Furthermore, in doing so, they even betray freedom of religion, claiming to speak for the only “true” faith while demanding that the state enforce an agenda of exclusion. Ultimately, this ironically stands in direct contradiction to the teachings of Christ, who preached love above all.
Therefore, at UNHOLY101, we reclaim diversity and inclusion as direct expressions of the American founding ideals. In fact, we believe that celebrating difference does not weaken the nation—it fulfills the promise Jefferson imagined. Moreover, the pursuit of happiness, in all its rainbow colors, is not just a right; rather, it is a living testament to the evolution of the open society.
